The Cruise

A full day aboard the only catamaran in Northern Vietnam.

The Halong Catamaran is a twin-hull yacht built for one purpose: spending as much of a single day on the water as possible, in genuine comfort. Its dual hulls give a steadiness and a sense of space no conventional junk can match, and its signature feature is the set of hammock-style loft nets slung between the two hulls, suspended just above the waterline.

You sail from Tuan Chau out across Ha Long Bay and into the quieter, less-travelled Lan Ha Bay - a panoramic restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open-air top sundeck for the karst views, and a full day of kayaking, caves, swimming, a cooking demonstration and a sunset tea ceremony before the drive back to Hanoi.

Day Trip

Hanoi – Tuan Chau – Ha Long & Lan Ha Bay – Hanoi

07:45–08:30A private limousine collects you from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter for the drive to the coast.

10:00–10:15Short rest stop on the expressway - stretch your legs and grab a coffee before the final leg.

11:30–11:45Board the catamaran at Dock 26, Tuan Chau Marina, with a welcome drink and a quick safety briefing as you set off.

12:00–13:00Vietnamese fusion buffet lunch with an open bar, served as the catamaran sails out across Ha Long Bay toward Lan Ha Bay.

14:00–14:45Kayak or take a bamboo boat through the Bright & Dark Cave and into a quiet private lagoon.

15:00–15:45Swimming, trampoline and water slide at the Ao Ech (Frog Pond) area - or simply relax on the loft nets.

16:00Vietnamese cooking demonstration - learn to roll fresh spring rolls, then taste your own.

16:30Sunset tea ceremony with tea, fresh fruit and cakes as the light turns over the bay.

17:45–18:00Disembark at Tuan Chau and board the limousine back toward Hanoi.

~20:00–20:30Drop-off at your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter.

Our experience of

The Halong Catamaran

We've hosted guests aboard the Halong Catamaran and been over her ourselves. She's the only catamaran of her kind working these waters, and the twin-hull design is the whole point - loads of deck space, sofas to sprawl on and big windows framing the karsts as you glide through Lan Ha.

Guests tell us the kayaking is the part they never forget, paddling through caves and quiet channels on water clear enough to see straight down. There's a bamboo boat trip and spring-roll making too, the food and service draw real praise, and the small touches - welcome drinks, tea breaks, little cakes through the day - are what lift it above the usual day tour.

What we've found: the Halong Catamaran is a roomy, easy way to see the quiet bay in a day, and strong value for what you get. It suits couples and families who want comfort and calm over a packed boat.
