Two to three days is ideal for the beach, Ba Na Hills, the Marble Mountains and Son Tra Peninsula at a relaxed pace. One day works if you are only passing through between Hoi An and Hue. Used as a base for day trips across central Vietnam, Da Nang can easily fill four or five.
It depends on the mood you want. Da Nang is a modern beach city with more nightlife, high-rise hotels and better transport links. Hoi An is smaller, older and far more atmospheric, with its lantern-lit ancient town. Many travellers split their time, or base in one and day-trip to the other, since they are only about forty minutes apart.
For most people, yes. The bridge held by two giant stone hands is a genuine spectacle, and the cable car ride into the mountains is memorable in itself. It is undeniably a built attraction and can get busy, so an early start helps you enjoy it before the crowds and the afternoon cloud roll in.
Hoi An is around thirty kilometres south of Da Nang, roughly a forty-minute drive by private car or taxi. The route is easy and flat, which is why the two pair so well - you can base in either and reach the other in under an hour for a day or an evening.
February to May offers warm, dry days and calm seas, ideal for the beach before the peak summer heat. June to August is hot and busy but great for swimming. October to December brings the wettest months and the risk of storms, so the earlier dry season is our usual recommendation.
