A full resort-based holiday
Four to five days is ideal for a proper unwind, mixing beach time with an island-hopping trip, the cable car and the night market. Two to three days is enough if it is a short beach coda to a longer trip, while a week or more suits anyone after a pure resort holiday at the end of their travels.
November to April is the dry season and by far the best time, with sunny skies, calm seas and the clearest water for snorkelling. May to October is the wet season, hotter and humid with afternoon downpours and rougher water, though mornings can still be fine. For beaches and boat trips, aim for the dry months.
If you want to end a Vietnam trip on a beach, yes. Phu Quoc has genuinely beautiful sand and water, good seafood and easy island trips, and it is far simpler to reach than many rivals thanks to its own airport. It has developed quickly, so seek out the quieter south and the offshore islands for the island at its best.
The easiest way is to fly - Phu Quoc has an international airport with direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and a growing list of overseas cities. There are also ferries from the mainland at Rach Gia and Ha Tien, but for most travellers a short flight from Saigon is the simplest option. We handle the connections for you.
Sao Beach on the south coast is the most beautiful, with white sand and clear shallows, best early before the crowds. Long Beach on the west is the main strip for sunsets and beach bars, while quieter spots like Ong Lang and Khem Beach reward those willing to explore. The offshore An Thoi islands have the best snorkelling.
