A boutique steel boat from the Indochina Junk fleet, designed in Indochine style - jade green paired with deep wood - it heads into Bai Tu Long Bay, the calmer, less-visited sister of Ha Long, where you'll often have the caves and beaches close to yourself.

The day takes in Thien Canh Son Cave, kayaking or a bamboo-boat ride around the tranquil Cong Do area, a swim in clear water, and a tea party on deck as the boat sails back past the Dragon's Head and Toad islets - all over a seafood lunch drawn from the Quang Ninh sea.

Day Trip

Hanoi – Bai Tu Long Bay – Hanoi

08:00–08:30A private shuttle collects you from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter for the drive to the coast.

11:00Arrive at Halong International Harbour; meet your guide at the waiting lounge and transfer to the boat.

12:00La Muse departs into Bai Tu Long Bay, sailing past the Mat Quy (Teapot) and other limestone islets.

12:30–13:30Seafood buffet lunch on board as the cruise glides deeper into the quiet bay.

14:00Visit Thien Canh Son Cave, a fairy-tale grotto tucked into the greenery.

14:45Kayak or take a bamboo boat around the tranquil Cong Do area; swim in the clear water if you prefer.

15:45Tea party on deck - tea, coffee and fresh fruit as the boat sails back past Dragon's Head and Toad islets.

17:30Arrive back at the harbour; transfer to the shuttle for the return to Hanoi.

Our experience of

La Muse Cruise

We've hosted guests aboard the La Muse and been over her ourselves, and for a day on the water she's hard to beat. She runs into Bai Tu Long Bay, the quiet neighbour to Ha Long, and guests tell us the same thing every time - no other boats, no crowds, no rubbish, just the karsts and the emerald water to yourselves.

It's an unhurried six hours or so: kayaking around the hidden Cong Do area, the Thien Canh Son cave, a swim, and a proper Vietnamese seafood lunch aboard rather than a token one. The classic wooden boat has indoor and outdoor dining, a sundeck and a bar, and the crew are friendly and attentive without making a production of it.
