The Itinerary

How your 3 days / 2 nights unfolds.

Day 1
Hanoi → Ha Long → Bai Tu Long Bay → Cap La / Vung Vieng
08:00–08:30Pick-up from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter, then the drive to Ha Long.
11:50–12:15Arrive at the Indochina Junk office; electric carts take you to the harbour.
12:30–13:00Welcome drink, itinerary briefing, safety regulations and room keys aboard the Dragon Legend.
13:15Lunch featuring fresh Ha Long seafood as the cruise sets off into untouched Bai Tu Long Bay.
15:00–17:00Kayak the Cap La area, a former navy base of majestic islets, or visit the Vung Vieng fishing village by bamboo boat (route varies by departure).
17:15Return to the cruise for the sunset over Bai Tu Long Bay.
19:00Dinner in a peaceful, romantic setting on the bay.
20:30Leisure time, squid fishing, the spa, or the bar. Overnight on board.
Day 2
Thien Canh Son Cave, Cong Dam beach & beach BBQ
07:30Tai Chi on the sundeck with a morning view of the bay.
08:00Breakfast on board.
08:45–10:15Visit Thien Canh Son Cave, Bai Tu Long's most beautiful cave, then kayak and explore Hon Co Island.
10:30Cruise to the Cong Dam area; stroll the natural beach and unwind.
12:30A unique BBQ lunch prepared by the chefs right on the beach, with time for beach activities.
14:30Return to the cruise; relax in the mineral seawater pool or gym.
17:15Banh Xeo cooking demonstration as the cruise moves to the Cong Do area.
19:00Dinner on the bay; squid fishing and leisure to follow. Overnight on board.
Day 3
Vung Vieng Village → Yen Duc Village → Hanoi
07:00–07:15Breakfast in the calm morning light of the bay.
07:45–08:45Explore Vung Vieng fishing village by local rowing boat, passing the floating school and fish farms.
09:00Return to the Dragon Legend and complete check-out.
10:15Buffet brunch as the cruise returns to port.
11:30Arrive at the harbour; drive to Yen Duc Village in Dong Trieu for a traditional water-puppet show by local artists.
16:00Arrive back in Hanoi. End of trip.

Our experience of

Dragon Legend Cruise

We've hosted guests aboard the Dragon Legend and been over her ourselves. She's Indochina Junk's boat for Bai Tu Long Bay - the only green-certified junk on the water - and her whole point is getting you away from the crowds; guests often tell us they barely saw another boat all trip.

The cabins are a genuine surprise, noticeably larger than most on the bay, with handcrafted Vietnamese detailing, bathtubs and big sea-view windows. The food draws real praise - the chef sends out produce carved into sculptures, which sounds gimmicky until you see it - and the kayaking and cave visits are well run. The crew give quiet, attentive service throughout.

What we've found: pick the Dragon Legend for the quietest water and the most character, with cabins that give you room to spread out. It suits couples and families who want Bai Tu Long done properly.
