Named after the brightest star in the northern sky and launched in 2020, the Capella is an all-suite vessel across six decks, 30 airy suites in a retro Indochina style, each with floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony or terrace and an ocean-view bathtub. It's the bay's most playful luxury cruise, with a signature inflatable waterslide, an Oasis pool and jacuzzi, a mini-golf course, a cigar & poker club and the Sea Melody theatre. Its route runs into the quieter Lan Ha Bay, taking in the Frog Lagoon (Ao Ech) area and the Dark & Bright Cave by bamboo boat, with kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, a cooking demonstration, a sunset happy hour and morning Tai Chi.

The Itinerary

How your 2 days / 1 night unfolds.

Day 1

Hanoi → Ha Long → Lan Ha Bay

Pick-up from the Hanoi Old Quarter around 08:00 and transfer to Tuan Chau, checking in around 11:45. Board the Capella with a welcome drink, then lunch as the cruise sails into Lan Ha Bay. The afternoon is for play, the Oasis pool and jacuzzi, the inflatable waterslide, kayaking or SUP around the Frog Lagoon area, swimming, or mini-golf on the top deck. Join a sunset happy hour at the Spirit of the Sea lounge, a cooking demonstration, then a fusion dinner and an evening of films, karaoke, board games or squid fishing.

Day 2

Lan Ha Bay → Hanoi

Begin with a Tai Chi session on the Ocean Sky sundeck and a light breakfast. Visit the Dark & Bright Cave by traditional rowing bamboo boat, drifting into a serene round lagoon enclosed by lush cliffs. Return to check out around 09:30, then a buffet brunch as the cruise heads back to Tuan Chau, arriving around 11:00 for the transfer to Hanoi.

Our experience of

Capella Cruise

We've hosted guests aboard the Capella and been over her ourselves, and she's the one we point families and playful couples toward. She's one of only two overnight boats on the bay with a waterslide, and it earns its keep - we've had everyone from small children to a grandmother in her seventies name it the best part of the trip.

Beyond the slide there's an all-season infinity pool and jacuzzi, a poker and cigar club and even a small theatre, so there's genuinely something for everyone once the excursions are done. The staff are kind and gracious, the cabins spacious, and the pool deck becomes the social heart of the boat at sunset over Lan Ha.

What we've found: pick the Capella when you want fun on board, not just off it - it's made for families and groups who want the bay and a bit of a party without losing comfort.
