The Itinerary

How your 3 days / 2 nights unfolds.

Day 1

Hanoi → Ha Long → Lan Ha Bay → Tra Bau

08:00–08:30Pick-up from your Hanoi Old Quarter hotel and transfer to the coast with a short rest stop.

11:45Arrive at Tuan Chau International Port and complete check-in at the waiting lounge.

12:30Transfer to the Aqua Luxury by speedboat and settle into your cabin.

13:00Buffet lunch as the cruise sails through Ha Long Bay into the quieter Lan Ha Bay.

14:45Arrive at Tra Bau in Lan Ha Bay for kayaking and swimming in the clear water.

17:00Sunset on the sundeck, a sunset party, and a Vietnamese cooking class.

19:00Dinner on board, then card games, karaoke or squid fishing. Overnight on board.

Day 2

Tai Chi → Quay To Kayaking → Ba Trai Dao Beach

06:00Optional sunrise Tai Chi on the sundeck.

07:00Breakfast as the cruise moves between the islands of the bay.

12:30Lunch on board, surrounded by the quiet scenery.

14:00Kayak the Quay To area among limestone karsts and floating fishing villages, or relax and swim at Ba Trai Dao Beach.

16:00Return to the cruise for a sunset party and a traditional cake-making session.

19:30Dinner on board; evening at leisure with the bar, squid fishing or karaoke. Overnight on board.

Day 3

Military Hospital Cave → Brunch → Hanoi

06:00Tai Chi on the sundeck for early risers.

06:30Breakfast at the restaurant.

07:15Visit the Military Hospital Cave (Quan Y Cave) on Cat Ba Island, a wartime field hospital built inside the limestone.

09:30Return to the cruise and check out.

09:45Brunch as the cruise heads back toward Tuan Chau Marina.

11:20Disembark at Tuan Chau Marina and transfer back to Hanoi, arriving mid-afternoon. End of trip.

Our experience of

Aqua Luxury Cruise

We've hosted guests aboard the Aqua Luxury and been over her ourselves. She's new, she sits in Lan Ha Bay - the quieter, less crowded water beside Ha Long - and the value for what you get is the thing guests raise first with us.

Dinner comes up again and again as the highlight, plenty of dishes and properly done, and the staff are humble and attentive in a way you notice; we've heard more than once about the cruise manager personally taking older guests out kayaking. The boat has a pool and a lift, and the cabins have balconies, some with baths looking over the bay. Between the kayaking, swimming, squid fishing and an easy evening, nobody feels hurried.

What we've found: the Aqua Luxury is a strong pick for the quieter side of the bay at a fair price, and for anyone - grandparents included - who wants the crew to genuinely look after them. Two nights lets Lan Ha open up.
