The Itinerary

How your 3 days / 2 nights unfolds.

Day 1
Hanoi → Ha Long → Lan Ha Bay → Dark & Bright Cave
07:45–08:30Bus pick-up from hotels around the Hanoi Old Quarter (exact time confirmed the day before).
11:30–12:00Arrive at Tuan Chau Harbour; transfer to the main boat by tender.
12:00–12:30Welcome aboard the Sena with a welcome drink and safety briefing, then check in.
13:15–13:45Lunch as the cruise sails into Lan Ha Bay, past Finger Islet and Candle Islet.
15:00Visit Dark & Bright Cave by bamboo boat, with time to swim in the emerald water.
17:00Return to the Sena for a sunset party on Lan Ha Bay.
19:00Dinner; the rest of the night for drinks on the sundeck, your room or squid fishing. Overnight on board.
Day 2
Viet Hai Village → Hidden Beaches (Day-Boat)
07:00A light breakfast on board.
08:00–08:30Transfer by small day-boat to go further than Lan Ha Bay, then explore Viet Hai Village by bike or tram through rice fields, visiting a traditional house.
13:00Lunch.
14:00The boat heads to a pristine beach area for swimming and secluded relaxation.
16:00Return to the Sena; relax on the sundeck with a happy-hour deal at the bars.
19:00Dinner; the rest of the night at leisure. Overnight on board.
Day 3
Tai Chi → Tra Bau / Frog Pond → Hanoi
06:30An early photo hunt and a Tai Chi session on the sundeck.
07:30Tea, coffee and a light breakfast as the cruise passes the karst towers.
08:15Kayak and swim around the Tra Bau / Frog Pond area, a filming location for Kong: Skull Island.
09:00–09:30Return to the boat for check-out.
10:00Lunch is served as the Sena navigates back toward the harbour.
11:30–12:00Disembark and return to Hanoi by bus, arriving at your hotel around 15:00–15:30. End of trip.

Our experience of

Sena Cruise

We've hosted guests aboard the Sena and been over her ourselves, and she's the one we point people to who want character over gloss. She's a boutique wooden boat, sixteen cabins at most, all warm woodwork and clever detailing - the kind of boat guests photograph as much as the bay.

The rooms are lovely and clean, each with its own little balcony, and the food comes course after course, generous and good. The guides get singled out by name again and again; they'll teach you to kayak, run the tai chi and play a little music, and it gives the whole trip a personal feel. Days take in the caves, a beach, Cat Ba, spring-roll making and squid fishing, out on the quieter Lan Ha water.

What we've found: choose the Sena for intimacy and character on a proper wooden boat, with guides who make it. It suits couples and small groups over big-ship crowds.
