Guests come for the gardens and the quiet - tiled-roof houses set among tropical planting, rooms with balconies and traditional wooden furniture, a pool for the afternoon, and staff who are named for their care. Breakfast is varied and generous. The pool can be warm, the keys are old-fashioned, and there is no lift.

Getting about: the Old Town is a 20-25 minute walk or a few minutes on the free bikes, and the resort runs a free shuttle to both the Ancient Town and Cua Dai Beach - Cua Dai Street itself is a busy road rather than a lane.
