About 3 hours · Reserved VIP seat · Either direction
One of the most scenic stretches of railway in Asia, travelled in comfort.
The railway between Hue and Da Nang is widely held to be one of the most beautiful stretches of line in Asia, and this is the comfortable way to travel it. You take a reserved seat in the air-conditioned VIP carriage of the Central Vietnam Heritage Train and simply watch the country go by.
The route opens with the countryside and waterways south of Hue, then runs out to the lagoon and coastal villages around Lang Co, before the climb over the Hai Van Pass, where the track curves along the mountainside high above the sea and ducks through tunnels on its way down into Da Nang. It runs in both directions, morning and afternoon, and takes roughly three to four hours depending on the service. For most travellers it is a far better use of the time than the road transfer.

Very. It is regularly named among the most scenic rail journeys in Asia. The highlight is the Hai Van Pass, where the line runs along the mountainside above the sea, with the lagoon and coast around Lang Co shortly before it.

Yes, the journey runs in both directions with morning and afternoon services, so it fits whichever way your itinerary is heading. Plenty of our travellers use it going north towards Hue.
No, getting to and from the railway stations is arranged separately. We can build those transfers into your trip so a driver is waiting at each end as part of a planned itinerary.
They are different pleasures. The road lets you stop at the top of the pass for the view, while the train gives you the coastal angle you cannot get from the road, with no winding and nothing to organise. Many travellers do one each way.
We’ll build the Hue to Da Nang heritage train into a complete, private itinerary across Vietnam, with transfers at both stations and everything else handled.
